Guy Beahm is the mustachioed streamer, better known as Dr. Disrespect. He has teamed up to create a new game studio, Midnight Society, with Robert Bowling, an ex-Call of Duty creative strategist, and Quinn Delhoyo, a Halo 5 multiplayer designer, to create “the best, most community focused online PVP multiplayer experience that the world has ever experienced.”
They have not released any details about what the studio is up to at this point. As you would expect from a project led by Dr. Disrespect, there is plenty of hyperbole. Midnight Society, a team of “killer” AAA players, has “turned the tables on the gaming industry with a new kind of game studio model and publishing model that’s been a decade in development.
Midnight Society will focus on early access to filter out the breathlessness. The studio announced that one of its priorities was the “inclusion of communities and influencers earlier in the development process.” While Beahm’s involvement might sound like stunt casting, remember that he worked as a community manager at Sledgehammer Games and was also a designer and designer on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (and Advanced Warfare 3).
Beahm stated, “As a streamer, player, and former game developer, I have often wished to create awesome titles that entire communities can support from the beginning.” My vision is to create games that challenge the traditional publishing model and reward those who influence them.
The studio is currently focusing on hiring. The careers page lists open positions for community managers, engineers, designers, artists and many more. All of these can be worked remotely. It is certainly aiming high. Midnight Society is a “AAA” game studio. Many job listings require a minimum of five years’ experience in big-budget gaming development. You can follow Dr. Disrespect’s progress on Twitter and Discord if you are not at this stage of your professional development but still want to be a part of his new studio.
