Eternals Wastes The MCU’s Strongest Characters

Marvel’s Eternals features some of the comic book’s most iconic characters, but it still falls short of some galactic gods. The film is about the immortal, ageless team of beings placed on Earth by entities called the Celestials to help guide humanity’s progress. Eternals is a massive film with a comprehensive historical scope. It falls short in one crucial area.

Eternals features Ajak (Salma Hayek) and Gilgamesh, Don Lee’s two most potent Marvel Comics characters. This movie shows what each one can do, but it is only a glimpse. According to comics, Gilgamesh is physically the strongest Eternal while Ajak, the mighty warrior, maybe the most powerful. Both their endurance and strength are enormous, and they are both wasted in this new film.

Hayek’s Ajak is very underutilized. Ajak is the leader among the Eternals. However, his role is relatively minor. In flashbacks, Ajak is seen helping Angelina Jolie’s Thena with her mysterious illness and discussing whether or not to follow their rule of non-intervention. Ajak, who decides to lead Eternals to prevent the world-ending Emergence, is thrown to Deviants by Richard Madden. This prevents the film’s entire display of what the character could have done during the final battle.

Similar to Gilgamesh, Kro (Bill Skarsgard) also dies in the hands. The movie doesn’t give enough information about the strength that he wields. Flashbacks to The Eternals’ long history on Earth also show him, although there are decent displays of his power both in the present and the past. Eternals isn’t quite the epic portrayal of Gilgamesh many fans expected.

Ajak, Gilgamesh and the rest of the Eternals are both killed in the latest MCU entry. They don’t have the chance to impress audiences as much as their fellow Eternals. However, the ending of Eternals was a cliffhanger. They will be seen again in future episodes, with the post credits scene teasing Thanos’ brother Eros, (Harry Styles) and Black Knight, (Kit Harington), as possible allies. Ajak, Gilgamesh and the resurrection element will be in place to allow them to show off their talents.

However, by the end, the band of cosmic warriors has broken up while several new characters join the MCU for major roles in Phase 4.

It’s evident that Eternals will continue to play a significant role in the MCU moving forward. Eternals literally changed the fate of Earth and humanity. It revealed that Tiamut, a Celestial named by Gemma Chan, was to be born out of our world and take over the Earth. This fate Sersi (Gemma Chan), led the Eternals in stopping. Out of loyalty to the Celestial Arishem, Richard Madden (Ikaris) attacked his fellow Eternals and attempted to ensure that the Emergence of Tiamut took place on time. Arishem arrived on Earth, took Sersi (Richard Madden), Phastos, and Kingo (Kumail Nnjiani) to be judged after the remaining Eternals had left Earth in the Domo to seek out the other Eternals.

Scarlett Johansson filed suit. The only place where Eternals fans can see it is their local movie theatre. This gives Eternals 2 a strong chance of becoming a blockbuster.

Avengers 5: Will the Eternals Return?

It is difficult to predict whether all or some of the Eternals will be in Avengers 5 Phase 4 is still in its infancy and no Disney+ series or films have yet definitively answered this question. Ikaris even suggested that he might lead Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. The Celestial, whose birth was to destroy Earth’s existence, was clearly a threat to Avengers. Tiamut’s head and hand were left partially exposed by the Eternals in the Indian Ocean. Eternals 2 won’t continue this plot point. Tiamut’s fate could be dealt with in Avengers.

How Eternals Creates Multiple MCU Spinoffs
