FFXIV Endwalker Gathering Changes and Crafting Instructions

Final Fantasy XIV crafting, gathering and managing is being redesigned with Endwalker. Although we’ve known this for some time, the developers finally revealed the details in the most recent Live Letter from Producer stream. This stream showed a lot of new content and future plans for the game.

In particular, the idea of gathering high-quality (HQ), materials is disappearing. While you can still make HQ items, it won’t allow you to harvest them wild. This was done to decrease inventory bloat . “Recipe progress will be adjusted” This makes sense since you cannot use high-quality gathering material to make difficult crafts… it’s less painful.

If you are wondering about quests that require that you gather HQ materials then don’t. They are being adjusted to accept normal materials, as well as bonus rewards for activities that reward them with HQ items.

Gatherers will see “new actions added and existing actions adjusted”. Fishers, Botanists and Miners. This is because about half the skills in the game can be used to gather HQ materials. There are no more HQ materials, so there is no need to acquire more skills. However, the “Perception” stat seems to not be disappearing. The team stated that the stat’s name will be changed in certain languages. English will not be affected, but this indicates that the stat, which has mainly been used to increase your headquarters yields, is still in place.

The probability of triggering “Gatherer’s Boon” status via perception is now higher. This will increase your overall yields by 1 instead of the previous effect. It seems that any action that has previously increased HQ item collection now boosts your Gatherer’s Boon chance. It remains to be seen how exciting this will be for hardcore gatherers.

The changes to fishing are slightly different. The HQ fish will be replaced by “large-sized fish” instead. Spearfishing is undergoing a complete overhaul. It was essentially the same process as Botany and Mining. Clicked on a bunch bubbles, and then waited for them… to froth. You clicked on a button.

Spearfishing now has its own mini-game. The screen looks a lot like an NES game, with fish moving across the screen and the player having to time trident pokes in order to catch them. You can also use the combo meter to track your fish. Your prey’s defenses will be reduced in different ways by your spearfishing skills, but the team did not go into too much detail. However, bonuses will be given for each subsequent catch.

I was then notified by the FFXIV developers that fishing and crafting levequests will receive lower rewards in terms gil and experience points than “certain other leves”, which will see their rewards increase. Unrelated, I spent nearly a week crafting the same two items in the Crystarium to get every crafting class up to Level 80. made money doing these random missions.
