Nintendo Reveals More N64 Games Coming to Switch Online in Future Updates
The confirmation that an additional tier will be added to the Nintendo Switch Online membership was one of the most significant announcements at Thursday’s Nintendo Direct. The “Expansion Pack” subscription will give you access to select games from the Sega Genesis and Nintendo 64. However, the price is not yet known. Nintendo revealed several Nintendo 64 games that would not be available at launch but will be released later.
Ocarina of Time will be one of the largest offerings when the new service launches late October. It is fitting that The Legend of Zelda will be one of the first Nintendo 64 games added later. This sequel to Ocarina of Time will also be available. It’s a thrilling occasion because neither of these Nintendo 64 Zelda classics is available elsewhere on the Nintendo Switch.
There are several other Nintendo 64 games being released via the Nintendo Switch online expansion pack. These include Mario Golf and Paper Mario. Unfortunately, Sega Genesis games weren’t teased. It is unclear if there will be any more.
The teased future releases are far less than what has been revealed for the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack launch. The service will launch with 9 Nintendo 64 games (including Super Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64), as well as 14 Sega Genesis titles, such as Ecco the Dolphin or Sonic the Hedgehog 2. There are 23 games at launch, with 7 more in the pipeline. This brings the total number of games to 30.
There is another chance for those who are excited about Nintendo’s plans to make Sega Genesis and Nintendo 64 games available. Nintendo will release Sega Genesis and Nintendo 64 controllers exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. The controllers will cost $49.99 each and require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. They are completely optional.
The final details of Nintendo’s launch of the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass are still to be revealed. This means there is currently no price and there is no release date beyond October. Nintendo confirmed that existing subscribers can add the Expansion Pass to their subscription or keep it as is. Other than the Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis games, there are no other Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass advantages.
