Avengers will finally bring Spider-Man into the game over a year after an announcement
Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix had announced over a year ago that they would be providing additional content for the PlayStation version of Marvel’s Avengers. This will include a new superhero, Spider-Man. This decision was controversial but it became more complicated when the game did not receive enough audience or critical acceptance. It was not a good idea to introduce a wedge in that situation to make the other platforms feel less important. This also contributed to a lot of resentment from the audience.
As the year progressed, Avengers experienced some subdued lows and really bad lows. The absence of Spider-Man was not the most important thing to fix. However, it was becoming more noticeable in his absence. Today Crystal Dynamics announced that Spider-Man will only be appearing for PlayStation versions of the game on November 30th, exactly 484 days after his announcement.
Wall crawler is a popular superhero who will be attending an event. According to the official Twitter account, there will be new enemy types, new costumes and raids added on the same day.
It doesn’t take any insider knowledge to conclude that Sony paid a huge sum for Spider-Man content and to secure planned Spider-Man content on the PlayStation. Sony has many interests in the character and their company. Not the least because he is, in my opinion, the most popular superhero in the world. It’s easy to see why Square Enix & Crystal Dynamics were so happy to make that transaction. More money for the game’s development will likely lift all boats.
However, after the year Spider-Man has seen, I can’t imagine anyone being happy with how this entire thing ended. It will be interesting to see what the Spider-Man content is doing, although there has been a lot of interest from PC buyers and Game Pass users. This is definitely going to be a major blow to a large portion of the playerbase.
